Be Alert and Watch!


Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong; Do everything in
Love.  1 Corinthians 16:13

1. Having a prayer life is required:

Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ
Jesus.   1 Thessalonians 5:17

Watch and pray so that you will not fall in temptation. The spirit is willing but the body is
weak.     Mark 14:38

2. We must be observant:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me,
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

There are things we need to be alert for:

1. Satan-- Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring
lion looking for someone to devour.  1 Peter 5:8

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.   
Ephesians 6:11

2. The company we keep-- Do not be misled, bad company corrupts good character.  1
Corinthians: 15:33

There are three things we need to watch out for in our life.

For everything in the world---the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the
boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.  1 John 2:
16




These are some things that we should know:

1. Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that  yeast works through the whole batch of
dough?  1 Corinthians 5:6

2. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be
deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor
homosexual offenders, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor
swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God  1 Corinthians 6: 9-10


3. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you
have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore,
honor God  with your body.
1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

4.  To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “ If you hold to my teaching you are really
my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.  John 8: 31-32

God is whom we should know.

1. After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: Father, the time has come.
Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all
people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life;
that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 17: 1-3

If you are not a member of the Lord’s Church, you need to know what you must do to
be saved.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people
say the Son of Man is?”  They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still
others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
“But who do you say that I am?” he asked.  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the
Son of the living God.”  Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not
revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and
on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give
you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Then he warned his disciples not
to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Mathew 16: 13-20

Peter Replied,  “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for
the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”     Acts 2:37-38

If you are a member of the body of Christ and you have fallen away, this is what you
need to know.

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness.    1 John 1: 9

One last word….Be on the Alert,  Be Watchful….for He is coming again.

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
