| Our Themes for April: A.M. – Joy: Don’t Look Down. Look Up! P.M. – God is Able April! Can you believe it? Before we begin our study on “Joy,” we have one lesson remaining in our series in Philippians: “Hope: Possessing a Positive Mind - Being Positive in Spite of Worries – A Secure Mind.” We’ll learn that a positive mind defeats worries. God gives us His peace (4:1-9). God gives us His power (4:10-13). God provides (4:14-23). As Christians, we have absolutely nothing to worry about. God’s word teaches us in Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, what-ever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. The things which you have learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” On Sunday evening we will conclude our series on “Opportunity” with a Door of Opportunity #4 – “A Mistake - The Doorway to Success.” We will look at the formula for overcoming failure in life: Recognize, Review, Repress, Readjust, Re-enter. I am very excited about the series of sermons coming up. It is my prayer that you will be encouraged and challenged in your faith as we look deeply into God’s word to find the answers to the questions of everyday life. Our Sunday morning theme for April is “Joy – Don’t Look Down. Look Up.” Psalm 27:1 is such a wonderful text from which to launch this series. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Our first lesson in this series will begin in 1 Peter 1 where Peter writes concerning our baptism, our hope, our inheritance, our security, and our salvation. Our enemy, Satan, may try to rob us of our joy. We must stand against him with the power of God’s word. Our Sunday night theme is “God is Able.” When we read the Bible, we find examples of great men and women who placed no limit on what they believed God was able to do. Abraham was “fully convinced that what He (God) had promised He was able to perform” (Romans 4:21). Shadrach, Meshach, and Aben-Nego believed that God was able (Daniel 3:1-18); and as you know, they were mightily delivered. Mary believed that Jesus could turn water to wine (John 2). He did. The ten lepers in Luke 17 believed that Jesus could heal them. He spoke, and they were cleansed. What about you and me today in Columbia, South Carolina, in April of 2008? God is able!
