I am writing this article from the 72nd Annual Bible Lectures at Freed-Hardeman University in
Henderson, Tennessee.  Just think about a gospel meeting or a “revival” that begins at 8:00 a.m.
and continues nonstop until 10:00 p.m. every day for seven days, and you get a picture of this
year’s program.  In addition to the main program, there is also a special series for youth ministers,
another series for campus ministers, and a special program for women.

Brother Ralph Gilmore was the first speaker.  He is a professor at FHU and moderates the
“Open Forum” at the lectures.  He preached on the subject of “
The Incarnation of the Lamb” from
John 1:1-18.  Jesus was and is God and became a man.  He asked us to consider Jesus’ head, His
heart, His hands, and His feet.  Every Christian should consider Jesus’ every-day activities and think
like He thought, feel like He felt, work like He worked, and go where He went.

Dan Winkler is teaching a series of lessons throughout the week entitled
Preaching the New
Testament – John: “The Way
.”  The lessons include the  Prologue, the Public Ministry, the Private
Ministry, and the Passion of Jesus according to John.  He says that every lesson from God’s word
should include a textual component, a doctrinal component, a homiletic component, and a practical
component.  As you can tell, I will be attending each of these sessions.

Every day this week I have been taking advantage of the opportunity to hear lessons from
Ralph Gilmore, David Pharr, Billy R. Smith, David Lipe, Alan Highers, William Woodson, and
Hardeman Nichols, to name a few.  I am taking detailed notes and plan to share what I am learning
with you as we go and grow in beautiful Columbia, South Carolina.

Thank you again for allowing me to be away.  Lord willing, I will be home sometime Saturday
evening late.  Remember us in your prayers as we travel.

Our theme for February is LOVE.  I will be preaching a series of lessons  entitled “
The Seven
Wonders of the Love of God
.”  On Sunday morning we will look at the first two “wonders” – the
Source and the Objective of God’s love.  On Sunday evening we will consider the third “wonder” of
the love of God, the
Dimensions of His love.

Read from the Bible in Ephesians 3:14-21, and think about the prayer that our brother Paul
prayed.  He prayed for every Christian to receive strength.  He prayed that Christ might dwell in us
through faith.  He prayed that we would be rooted and grounded in love.  He prayed that we
might be able to comprehend and know the love of Christ which passes all knowledge.  He prayed
that every Christian would be filled with all the fullness of God.  At the end of the above mentioned
passage, you will find one my favorite promises.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the
church by Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen.”
                Ephesians 3:20-21

BIBLE BOWL 2008 is now only two weeks away scheduled for Saturday,  February 23rd.
Our teams are studying every day to remember all the details of Esther and Amos.  If you are not
on one of our teams, please know that we need every SAR member to be here all day or any part
of the day to help make this state-wide event one of the best ever.  May God bless our efforts
together for the cause of Christ to promote Bible study and Christian fellowship in our great
state of smiling faces and beautiful places.
