When you drive into the parking lot here at St. Andrews Road and glance toward the back of our property,
you’ll see some really big changes.  I often think about that Saturday a few weeks ago when
we pretended to be loggers in the 100 degree heat -- and that was my second week on the job as your
minister!  Boy, was that an introduction to Columbia! We had a great time.  No one was seriously injured,
and  we  realized  that the job was much too big for us as amateurs.   Over the years I’ve learned that a
professional, might need three days to complete a job, maybe less; and when the job is completed, you
can see the quality.  For an amateur, well, he may never get it done; and if he does complete the job, the
quality leaves much to be desired.  Our elders are to be commended for their decision to move quickly to
see  that  our  property  and  our  facilities  look  their  best  for  us  as  members and for our friends and
neighbors.  Thank you to  every brother  and sister in  Christ for  your generous gifts toward this project.
May God bless you many times over for your generosity and your continued support of the work of Christ
both locally and all over the world.

Cindi and I are expecting our second “Razorback” grandbaby to be born on September 7th, in Conway,
Arkansas.   Our daughter, Bridget,  will be checking  into  the  hospital  at 7:30 a.m.  where our grandson,
Kohen Maxell, will  be born  by C-section sometime that morning.  Cindi will depart on Labor Day morning,
flying out of Charlotte.  I plan to leave early Wednesday morning, the 6th.  The trip takes a little less than
12 hours in our Ford.   Cindi plans to stay about three weeks to help with the new baby.   I plan to return
home on  Tuesday  night, September 12th,  Lord willing.   Please  remember  our daughter,  Bridget and
son-in-law, Daryl,  in your prayers  as they make this big  adjustment in their lives.  They have Faryn, 14
months, and now Kohen, new born.  Pray for a safe birth and a healthy baby boy.  Pray for us also as we
travel.  Pray for safety, provision, and wisdom.  Pray for the Lord’s will to be done.  Thank you for allowing
us to be away for a few days to welcome our new grandson into the world.

So far we have considered the first two questions God asked Adam and Eve after they committed such at
terrible sin (Genesis 3:9-13):  “Where Are You?” and “Who Told You That?”  This Sunday we will discuss
the third question:   “Have you  eaten from  the tree  of which I  commanded  you that you should not eat?”
Now we all know that God knew what Adam and Eve had done. He knows all things (1 John 3:20).  Why ask
this question?  He wanted Adam and Eve to see their sin, to admit their sin,  to take responsibility for their
sin, and to repent of their sin.  God is asking the same questions today through the gospel of Christ.  Have
you sinned?  Of course, the answer to this question is “Yes.”  What can we do now?   The answer to that
question for the Christian is found in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  The answer to this question for one who is not yet a
Christian is found in Acts 2:38:  “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent and let every one of you be baptized in
the name of Jesus for the remission of sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

On Sunday evening we will hear a lesson entitled, “I’ll Be a Friend to Jesus.” We will look at four marks of a
true friend and by these determine if we are truly friends of Jesus.
