August Themes – A.M. – A Generous Heart
P.M. – A Passionate Commitment to the Cause

Wow!  Our 10th Annual All-Night Singing was a terrific success!  We had 140 of the best
Christian voices in the church singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs from 7:30 p.m. until just
past midnight.  A big thank you to Mike Moore for coordinating this event.  Thank you, also, to those
who helped in any way to make this year’s singing such a wonderful event.  There were 22 song
leaders.  It was especially good to see so many of our young men standing up to lead!  Next year,
let’s have 200!  God is so very good to us … all the time!

The next few days will be especially busy around town with everyone getting ready for the new
school year.  It will take our teachers and students a few days to get back into the back-to-school
routine.  Remember the “Christian Graces” listed in  2 Peter 1 and put these characteristics into
practice.  Faith comes first, then virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly
kindness, and love.  Be a little more observant and patient on the highways.  Be kind to one another.

The new school year includes extracurricular activities as well as studying and learning.  Our
children will be in sports, cheerleading, band, drama, and other related activities.  Parents — Please
remember to prioritize your time, talents, and money; then help your children do the same.  Our
Christian walk with God comes first in every list.  School work always comes before extracurricular
activities.

Additionally, we need an adequate amount of rest.  During the summer our routine usually
includes a later-than-usual bedtime.  Now that school is back in session, we’ll need to be in bed earlier.

Good nutrition is vital to learning, growing, and success in any program.  Eating a good
nutritious breakfast helps us all in our effort to stay healthy and happy.  Parents — Make sure you do
your part to see that your children leave for school  mentally, physically, and spiritually ready for the
day.

                     1.  Get up early and prepare a good breakfast for your children.  Get them
up early enough to eat without being in a hurry.  It might be helpful to let
the family help with the menu for the week.

                    2.  Pick out your clothes the night before and have them ready to put on in
                         the morning.

                    3.  Pray.  Ask God to bless your family throughout the day.  We need strength
to maintain our commitment to Christ.  We need wisdom to know when to
speak and when to be silent.  Remind everyone of how much God loves
them, and that He expects them to live the Christian life kindly and honorably.

                    4.  Discuss the schedule for the day and remind each family member of
his/her responsibilities to one another.  A calendar with each family
                         member’s schedule is useful.

                    5.  At the close of the day, set aside some time to talk about the successes of
the day as well as the day’s problems.  Communication is so very important
                         to a happy home.

On Sunday morning we will continue in our series, “
A Generous Heart,” with a lesson entitled
The Average Christian.”  Is there such a person as an “average Christian?”  What does this mean?
We’ll examine ourselves to see.

On Sunday evening we will look at a lesson entitled “
WHY Should I Commit Myself to the         Cause
of Chris
t?”  A good question!  A good reason!

May God bless us as we travel together toward heaven!
