| August Themes -– A.M. – A Generous Heart P.M. – A Passionate Commitment to the Cause This week we have been busy getting back into our normal routine after a very successful Vacation Bible School. Thank you again to every Christian who helped in any way with this year’s VBS. It was certainly a privilege to see so many from our community present. It is our sincere hope and prayer to God for those who attended our VBS that they will someday soon return to obey the precious gospel of Christ. Our 10th Annual All-Night Singing is Friday, August 1st, from 7:30 until … If you’re reading this article before Friday, please come out on Friday night and enjoy one of the best periods of congregational singing you’ll ever attend. Please bring snacks, desserts, and drinks for everyone to enjoy. It is certainly good and right to sing praises to our God for all His benefits toward us. Let us honor Him as we “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:16-17). Thank you for allowing me to be away on Wednesday night. Cindi and I made the trip to Gastonia, North Carolina, to visit with the church of Christ there. They have been hosting a “summer series” on Wednesday nights on the theme of “As According to His Will.” I spoke on the subject of “Marriage.” Our Sunday morning sermon theme for August will be “A Generous Heart.” This Sunday morning we will look at a lesson entitled “Giving and Believing in God.” You will see that this lesson is quite simple and straight to the point. Our choice is simple. Will we trust and obey God? Or not? We’ll introduce a simple illustration and then read from the Bible. This Sunday evening we will conclude our series on “In Christ All Things Have Become New” with a lesson entitled “A New Hope.” Our August theme for Sunday night will be “A Passionate Commitment to the Cause.” This series includes four lessons: August 10 WHY should I commit myself to Christ? August 17 What are the OBSTACLES to committing to Christ? August 24 HOW can I commit myself to Christ? August 31 After I commit to Christ, what is next? Our monthly Men’s and Preachers’ Meeting resumes this month on August 19th. All elders, deacons, ministers, and all men of the congregation are invited to attend. We meet at 10:00 a.m. every third Tuesday in the month to discuss various Biblical topics and issues facing the church. Our goal is to edify one another in the faith of Jesus Christ. After our meeting we usually have lunch together at one of our local restaurants. Mark your calendar for this very special time of study and fellowship and make plans to attend. School begins in just a few days! Did I have to mention that? We have had a great summer showing and sharing the love of Jesus, our Savior. Have you grown in your faith this summer? A more mature faith in Jesus Christ will help you as you begin a new school year. Expect to be tempted. Your friends will expect you to be the same old person you were before you came to a better understanding of your life in Christ. Trust God. He will help you. Your friends will soon see that you are different, more mature, stronger, better in Christ. |
