| THEMES FOR JULY A.M. Jesus said, “I Will Build My Church.” Origin – Organization – Work - Future P.M. In Christ All Things Become New. New thinking – New Lifestyle – New Hope – New Future Our annual, summer Vacation Bible School is now only a week away scheduled for Sunday evening, July 20th, through Thursday evening, July 24th, at 6:30 p.m. Our theme this year is “Walking in Son Light.” I hope you will plan to attend every session of our VBS. We’ll have singing, skits, crafts, fellow- ship, and most importantly a study of God’s word. We have sessions for every age: babies, children, teenagers, and adults. Invite your friends, your family, and everyone you know to come and be with us for this very special event. You can pre-register on Sunday, July 13th, in the lobby. Our children are already participating in a poster contest to see who can make a poster that best demonstrates our theme. If you did not get a poster, please see Brother Bill Young for your poster. Oh, and by the way, on Thursday night there will be a hamburger and hot dog supper with homemade ice cream for dessert. Hmm! It is not too soon to mention our 10th Annual All-Night Singing at Andrews Road (only three short weeks away!). Mark your calendar and get your voice warmed up for one of the best evenings of singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs you will ever attend. 10th Annual All-Night Singing Friday, August 1, 2008 7:30 p.m. until … Last Sunday morning we began a series of lessons on the church of Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18, “I will build My church.” The church of Christ was planned in the mind of God, the Father. The church was purchased by the blood of God, the Son. The church is protected by God, the Holy Spirit. The church is prized by God above all of creation. This Sunday we will look at the organization of the Lord’s church. Jesus Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 2:22-23). He has given authority to the eldership of the church to oversee and shepherd the church (Acts 20:28). Our deacons are appointed to work in specific areas of ministry (1 Timothy 3:13). All members are united in worship, fellowship, and work for the cause of Christ as ambassadors for Christ (Ephesians 4:1-6; 2 Corinthians 5:20-21). God’s word, the Bible, is the only source for instruction (Galatians 1:6-10). The world certainly tempts us in many ways toward the broad way that leads to destruction. This is my prayer for the church and for every individual that we may always follow the straight and narrow path that leads to life. Jesus tells us that there are few who find this path (Matthew 7:13-14). On Sunday evening we will continue in our series on “The New Life in Christ.” Old things have passed away in Christ. All things have become new. This Sunday evening we will consider our new way of thinking in Christ. May God bless us in every way as we all seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first in our daily lives! He will supply our every need according to His will. |
