Jerry
and
      Shelby
Satterfield
Jerry and Shelby are the parents of two children both of whom are married -- , Jay Satterfield and
his wife, Nan, and Susan Satterfield Ryan and her husband, Michael.  They are the grandparents
of four grandchildren, Janon, Caleb, Camille, and Coleman.

Jerry first attended this congregation (Pope Street then)  in the spring of 1958 while in the United
States Army stationed  at Fort Jackson.   His father was an elder at Moreland Avenue Church of
Christ in Atlanta, so he had the blessings of a Christian home.  While at Pope Street, he met and
married Shelby Yenny.    Shelby’s father, Haskell Yenny, Sr., was an elder at St. Andrews Road for
many years.  The Satterfields lived in various places over the world while in the military – Alaska,
Germany, and El Paso, Texas.   During their travels, they were active in the Lord’s church
wherever they were, and Jerry served as a deacon in various capacities in each congregation.

Jerry and Shelby and their family came back to St. Andrews Road in Columbia, South Carolina, in
1978 after Jerry’s retirement for the military.   Upon retiring from the Army, Jerry accepted
employment with Allied Chemical Corporation (Honeywell) and retired in 1999.   He now has the
time to more fully devote himself to the church.  Of course, fishing takes a “little” of his time.
Jerry was installed as elder in 1999.   Jerry preaches from time to time at St. Andrews Road and in
small congregations all over South Carolina.  At the present time he is teaching the Young Adult
Class on Sunday morning and the Wednesday Night Adult Class.

Shelby was a full-time travel agent for ten years, was church secretary at St. Andrews Road for
many years and still remains on call when needed.  Over the years she has also taught several
levels of children’s Bible School classes, Vacation Bible School, and the Ladies’ Bible Class.  On
several occasions Shelby has been one of the speakers at Ladies’ Day.

Jerry feels the most overwhelming and hardest task of being an elder is meeting the needs of the
flock, and he says the most rewarding and gratifying aspect of being an elder is making a
difference in lives and helping others to grow in Christ.

Jerry’s earnest prayer is that the St. Andrews Road Church of Christ congregation will be all that
God wants it to be.
