| Baxter and Earlene Deadmon Baxter and Earlene grew up in Davie County, North Carolina. They were married in Mocksville, North Carolina, on August 14, 1948, and were baptized into Christ September 27, 1948, at the old Jericho Church of Christ in Davie County, N.C. This is the oldest Church of Christ without instrumental music in North Carolina. They have two daughters, Vickie and Karen, both baptized into Christ in September 1968. Baxter is a WWII U.S. Marine Corps veteran with U.S.M.C. and A.U.S. service combined for over 41 years. His last duty assignment was a five-year tour as Chief of Staff, 120th U.S. Army Reserve Command, Ft Jackson, S.C., responsible for the oversight of 90 USAR units and nine maintenance facilities located in South Carolina and North Carolina. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth, KS, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Washington, D.C. He served as a deacon and elder with the old Shandon congregation, Columbia, S.C., and also, an elder with the St Andrews Road congregation in the 1990's and returned to the eldership January 1, 2006. He has preached for several congregations during brief periods between full-time preachers and has taught Bible classes for many years. Teaching Bible classes is his most enjoyable work in the church. Baxter understands the challenge, the time required, the heartaches, and joys involved in being one of the shepherds of the flock here at St Andrews Road Church of Christ. Earlene is a faithful member and worker in the church. She retired as a Receptionist with the South Carolina House of Representatives. |
