Alex and Pat Arlington are the parents of two daughters. Jessica is 20 and is a sophomore at the University of South Carolina where she is pursuing a degree in Pharmacy. Leslie is 17 and is a junior in high school. Upon graduation Leslie intends to attend Nursing School. Alex joined the Army after graduating from high school. His final duty station while on active duty was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While visiting his parents one weekend in Durham, NC, Alex met his future bride. They met at church in the winter of 1978 and were married in that same church in the summer of 1979. Alex is a civilian with the Department of the Army and works at Ft. Jackson. He is also an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Pat had worked for the local school district for many years but decided in 2005 that she wanted to do something different. She is enjoying her time at home and is currently babysitting a precious baby girl. Alex and Pat have been blessed with Christian parents. Alex’s father has served as a deacon and elder at congregations in several different states, and Pat’s father currently serves as a deacon in Durham, NC. Both set of parents have been married for more than 50 years, remain active with the church, and are enjoying retirement. The Arlington’s have attended St. Andrews Road since 1995. Alex served as a deacon for several years before being appointed as an elder in January 2006. Alex’s current areas of responsibilities include the Service Groups and Missions. In late 2005 Alex, along with another current elder, Brother Alan Larmon, went on a mission trip to Saipan. St. Andrews Road helps to support Brother Joey Treat, a missionary in the Northern Marianas Islands. During the trip they conducted many Bible studies, and knocked on hundreds of doors, handing out brochures on the church and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Alex knows the obligations and responsibilities of an elder will be time consuming and frustrating at times but he also understands that the rewards are innumerable. It was during the mission trip to Saipan that Alex realized there are few things in life that give you a greater sense of joy and accomplishment than having a positive impact on someone’s spiritual life. He hopes to instill this feeling with members of the congregation as he helps to shepherd the flock at St. Andrews Rd. |
